Minimalism

Challenge

I set myself the challenge to produce an abstract animation that represents one of the core fundamentals of design, minimalism. I gravitate towards minimalist design and I wanted to pay homage to this style.

Solution

From the outset I intended on using notable qoutes made by academics and philosophers to lead the narrative. I used a call and response technique so that the core animation responded to the typographic motion design. Light was used effectively to add depth and ambience. This resulted in the environment sustaining a minimalist tone of voice giving more breathing space for the typography. I achieved a three dimensional look and feel by using gradients creatively to suggest light. I used radial gradients on flat circles to add depth and to suggest that they were spheres.

I was responsible for idea generation, art direction, motion graphics and compositing. This animation was solely rendered using After Effects.
